In this blog post, I will be discussing some programs used to create magazine covers and I will decide which program I will like to use to create my magazine cover. I think I have an idea of which program I will like to use, but I'm not 100% sure yet.
The three programs I will be researching are Photoshop, Illustrator, and Canva. I chose these three because I have heard more things about them and I feel like since they are more popular, they will be easier to use.
Photoshop:

This magazine cover was created in photoshop. I found this magazine cover on Etsy and I liked it, so I wanted to use it in my blog as one of my examples. I like the layout of the cover and how it doesn't look too crowded but is perfectly spaced. The colors pop and everything matches which makes it very appealing to look at. The quality of the images is really clear and the main image is engaging because the guy is making eye contact with the camera. The typography is very fitting for the genre and I think this cover has good spacing, color choices, and image placement. This magazine cover gets the idea across right away and it is a very good magazine cover.

This magazine cover was also created in photoshop. I found this magazine cover on Etsy and it caught my eye right as I saw it. I like how the main image is very focused on the two boys and how they pop out from the background. I also like the typography and how the boy's head overlaps the title making him show more and catch the readers' eye right away. The color schemes match the sport they are referring to which makes the idea clearer. The props in this image help the reader understand what the magazine will be about without having to read even one piece of text on the cover or in the magazine. I like the clarity of ideas presented on the magazine cover, which makes the magazine cover more appealing and less confusing.
Pros of Photoshop:
Many tutorials to follow on youtube
Many tools available to use
Help is available on the program to help the user find their way around
The very fast editing process
Can edit videos and images
Easy to delete anything with one click of the delete button
Easy to move files onto the program
Brushes have a large range of sizes
Cons of Photoshop:
Some tools are hard to control for beginners
Expensive (I have free access due to school)
Hard to understand and work around at first
Some tools aren't detailed enough or are small
I think photoshop is a great program but I find it to be a little more difficult than other programs to use. I've had a little bit of experience with photoshop and it has been pretty hard for me to find my way around the program. I don't think I will end up using this program.
Canva:
1)
This magazine cover was created on Canva. I found this magazine on Canva and I liked how the typography was simple and the main image was not only clear but had atmosphere. When I was looking at magazine covers, this one stood out to me and I liked the way canva makes images blend well together. I think Canvas will be easier to use so I might consider it to be one of my top choices as the designer I will use to create my magazine cover.

This magazine cover was also created on Canva. I found this magazine cover on Canva too and I think all of the magazine covers made on Canva have the same low-exposure vibe. I like the way this magazine cover looks. The text is simple but gets the message across right away and the image is really clear. I've realized that all magazine covers created on Canva have clear images, and simple text and get the idea across immediately. I've heard that Canva is pretty user-friendly and easy to work around, which makes me want to use this program for my magazine cover.

Budget-friendly
Cons of Canva:
The free version is limited
Cannot move one design to another
Cannot download the "raw" file to the computer
I have used Canva in the past and I think it is pretty easy to use and I will be able to find my way around easily. I like the setup with Canva and how easy it is to find the tools I am looking for. I think Canva is one of my top options right now.
InDesign
1)
This magazine cover was created in InDesign. I found this cover on template.net along with many other images of magazine covers. I like the clarity of the image and I found many tutorial videos on youtube to help use InDesign. I like how simple this magazine cover is and how clear the main image is. It gets the message across immediately that the magazine is about basketball. I heard that InDesign takes a few days to get used to which I think means that the program is a little hard to use. I don't think I will end up using this program.

This magazine cover was also created on InDesign. I found this cover on template.net , on that website there are so many types of magazine covers. I like how there is an atmosphere on this magazine cover. I think it is very unique how the white text stands out in the dark background. The main image is very clear and lets the reader know right away what the magazine is about. Although there are videos to follow along with to create a magazine cover on InDesign, I don't think I will be using this program because it is one of the harder programs to use.
Pros of InDesign:
InDesign can hold a lot of text on one file
Has more text features than other editing programs
Has many tools to use
The introduction has a walkthrough of the tools and techniques available on InDesign
Cons of InDesign:
Complicated-hard for beginners to understand and get used to
Software crashes due to how big the software is
Some documents aren't compatible with InDesign
In conclusion, I will be using Canva to create my magazine cover. I think I like the abundance of videos available online to be able to follow along when I am ready to create my magazine cover. I like how simple Canva can be once you are slightly familiar with it. I have used Canva in the past and I think it will be one of the easiest programs for me to use and work with.
